Blogging in any language!

Communication is vital as such people communicate using words, pictures and gestures. Teaching a foreign language there are many interesting sites to visit to find resources for your classes. However as I believe in  integrating the internet across all content area. It is extremely important for us as educators to encourage our students to research knowledge of current affairs and information in general of events around the world. The following web site is an interactive news site from TIME magazine. The site categorizes current events articles and activities by grade levels and include games, trivia and a homework helper. http://www.timeforkids.com/

Once you have visited this site you may encourage your students to conduct news casts in school or in their communities. You may encourage your school to start a broadcasting station wher the students reports may be aired. If not you could air you students report in class.

  1. Shawnette,
I agree with you that students should have good knowledge about the current events. The Time for Kids website that you have recommended here is a good site. We can trust the information on it. The language it uses is simple and the news it provides it current. Best of all its free! What I liked most about the site was that the news on it was categorized by subjects, entertainment, health, sports etc and by grade level. This gives educators the flexibility to use it with all students and students with different interests and still achieve the same outcome. Another good reliable News website is Scholastic.com under teacher tab.

  2. Beena,

Thanks for responding to my post. I have checked out the news web site you recommended and indeed it is a great sight. I am thinking of getting my students to log on and writing their reviews in French and Spanish.

  3. Shawnette,

You can have your student's blog in a different language. When I was in middle/high I took French and we had to write essays in French. Instead of having students complete the typical "write to a pen pal" assignment, you can have them blog in the language. With blogs, it allows students to communicate with people all over. Posting a blog in a different language can help your students to actually interact with a pen pal.
